In the Cathar Country , at the foot of the Black Mountain and overlooking the Minervois plains, the village of Caunes-Minervois has a rich historical and cultural heritage.
Close to the Mediterranean sea but firmly rooted in the foothills of the black mountains, the micro-climate is ideal for the renowned AOC(controlled origin labels) Minervois wine production.
The « cité » of Caunes was built around its Benedictine abbey and the “Argent Double”, a small tributary of the Aude River, which flows through the village all year-round. The old streets of the village are of particular interest and the surrounding countryside : vineyards, garrigue and forests allow beautiful walks.
