The museum is settled in the former bishops’ palace (17th century), a beautiful heritage building located between the old city and the valley of the Eure spring.
Through the museum's collections you can discover Uzès' and the neighbouring villages' heritage and history : archaeology, ancient maps, historical figures, traditional arts and crafts (especially local pottery and painted furniture).
Two writers are evoked because of their links with Uzès : the 17th century playwright Jean Racine spent one year in Uzès, and the 20th century novelist André Gide (Nobel Prize of literature in 1948) had family roots in Uzès. A whole room is dedicated to him, featuring manuscripts, illustrated books, portraits.
Temporary exhibitions are regularly held by the museum.
